  • Architect established a relationship with the home’s original owners who purchased the spec-built affordable starter home with government assistance. Over the years they were game for numerous tours and hosted reporters for Dwell magazine cover story. They were aware of the special nature of their home.
  • After having lived in the house for five years, the original owners contacted the architect to build on the existing design and provide them with a new main suite.
  • The design honors the original layout of the property and distinguishes between served and serving spaces. It takes advantage of the inherent height of the structure and provides much-needed additional storage in the usually inaccessible taller spaces.
  • In approximately half of the original construction cost, a new main suite and a soaring garden trellis are added completing the composition
  • Resilience and sustainability: a new battery and additional solar panels to take the home completely off the grid
